I thought The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was a much better movie than it was a book so I'm very hopeful about the movie adaptation!

I loved La Belle Sauvage. It's my favorite book in the universe, more even than The Golden Compass. I loved the glimpses into everyday life in Lyra's world that we get from Malcolm; Lyra lives such a strange life that we don't really get to see how normal people live and I adored that. (I hated the second book in the new series, tho.)

Oh, that's funny! I thought the book was overall better, although the movie was a really excellent adaptation, possibly my favorite out of the franchise and I do love comparing the two. IMO the book was too long, but the ambiguity in the movie was a little too much. I'm definitely looking forward to Sunrise's adaptation and how it stands against the book.

Maybe I mixed up the reception to the second book with the first one. Hopefully the third book will be much better!

I felt like the movie did a better job of exposing Snow as an unreliable narrator because the audience could literally see his actions. I don't know how it would play if you haven't read the book, though - I found things really interesting, like how the narration tells us Tigris isn't pretty but they cast a really beautiful actress to play her.

And here is why it's my favorite adaptation, there's quite a lot to discuss about the movie vs the book, and the thing is IMO the movie isn't wrong, it just provides a different interpretation of Snow's character, which I'm quite glad for. Many adaptations tend to miss the point of the story, while this adaptation adds even more delightful discussion.

Tom Blyth is a wonderful actor who really conveyed Snow's internal struggles quite nicely on the screen. I'm not sure if the movie could have worked with a lesser actor.
