You might have completely forgotten to check it out at all, even though you're the admin and you really should have. So let's do this again! <3
Copy and paste the text from the little box below into a new comment on this post. Feel free to remove the questions that aren't relevant for you! (If you want to fill this out in a post somewhere else, you're welcome do so, simply credit

Age Group: Late 30's
Dealbreaker(s): I don't think I really have any hard and fast dealbreakers. I suppose if you post a LOT I might get overwhelmed by that. A lot being multiple times every day.
I Recently Finished Reading: I'm on a rereading kick so I've recently reread Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat and Westmark by Lloyd Alexander (the inspiration for my username, btw)
A Book I Want to Reread: Well funny you should ask… :D My goal for 2025 is to let myself reread to my heart's content so I plan on rereading The Queen's Thief series at some point, finishing my reread of the Westmark Trilogy (currently on Book 2), and possibly also reread The Kingdoms by Natasha Pulley
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List:
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Right now just a few that have been "coming soon" for so long they might as well be done with forever:
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On:: I still need to watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I'm way behind on my Hunger Games fandom!
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): The Rifter by Ginn Hale
My Favorite Book Genre(s): LGBTQ+ Fantasy/Sci-Fi
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Other than The Rifter? It's ok, I've got tons more! Let's go with God Eaters by Jesse Hajicek
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): First, Become Ashes by K.M. Szpara
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Danmei for sure at some point
Link to My Latest Book Review: I haven't been writing reviews much lately, but I did write a kind of review/promo for The Rifter during the Snowflake Challenge. Check it out!
Link to My Reading Log: My kind of up to date Storygraph
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About:Fantasy, sci-fi, adult fiction, especially anything angsty! I'm writing a series of posts about my love of angst in fiction for the Fannish 50 this year.

Characters who don't have any interest in being in the story; "Book 1 in a Series" where the series length is unknownEdit: Whoops, I thought it meant book dealbreakers! DW dealbreakers: I dunno, maybe drowning my timeline in too many posts.I Recently Finished Reading: How Tyrants Fall, Tales From the "White Hart"
A Book I Want to Reread: A book I reread every few years is The Hunter's Haunt.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: Among the books currently on on my TBR shelf: Cunning Folk: Life in the Era of Practical Magic, Thyme Travellers: An Anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction, The Hallowed Hunt, Sherlock Holmes's War of the Worlds
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: The CIA Book Club
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: I've always got an eye on the Hugo and Nebula finalists.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): It's hard to pick A Favorite, but my favorite book by my favorite author is The Cyberiad.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, non-biography nonfiction, gamebooks (Choose Your Own Adventure-style works)
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Changing Planes is one of Ursula K. Le Guin's best books and criminally underappreciated. Eversion is probably the best sf book I've read in the last couple years. The Rhino with Glue-On Shoes is a great example of what I like in nonfiction. Twas: The Krampus Night Before Christmas is a brilliant example of a modern gamebook.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): American Gods is easily the worst Hugo novel winner I've ever read, and I was saying that before the assault allegations against Gaiman surfaced.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Anything if you can convince me the specific book is interesting enough
Link to My Latest Book Review: This one for The Dawn of Everything.

Dealbreaker(s): Racism, homophobia, general hatred for no good reason
I Recently Finished Reading: When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi
A Book I Want to Reread: I’m not one to reread, so none at the moment.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: James by Percival Everett, Apocalypse Cow by Michael Logan
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Brigands and Breadknives by Travis Baldree, both Michael Connelly books due to release this year.
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: (adaptations etc.) The Apple TV adaptation of the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells looks like it’ll be fun.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): Dracula by Bram Stoker, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Mystery, thriller, cozy mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, cozy fantasy, and (more specifically), hockey or cowboy romances.
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): For sci-fi, anything by John Scalzi. Man is hilarious. Starter Villain is one of my favorites. Mysteries I like Kathy Reichs’ Temperance Brennan series, for hockey romances I love Rachel Reid. I know this is vague, but I went with authors I know consistently produce quality work.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Yeesh, I have no idea.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: I don’t read as much sci-fi as I think I might enjoy, so it’s something I’d like to delve into more, along with speculative fiction.
Link to My Latest Book Review: My reviews are all on my Wordpress blog, but the last thing I reviewed (that wasn’t a cookbook) is here
Link to My Reading Log: I don’t really have one online, but you can friend me on Storygraph, if you’d like, I’m asphaltcowgrrl there as well.
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: I’ll chat about anything, even if it’s a genre I’m not generally into. Because I’m always up for a good story.

I Recently Finished Reading: Sunrise on the Reaping, Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle
A Book I Want to Reread: I love to reread and often say I read new books to find something worth reading 100 more times. I'm currently (already) rereading Sunrise on the Reaping. Some favorite rereads: La Belle Sauvage, In the Dream House, Redwall, How to Keep House While Drowning. I especially love rereading audiobooks.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: The Refusal of Work: The Theory and Practice of Resistance to Work, Jewcy: Jewish Queer Lesbian Feminisms for the Twenty-First Century
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: (I haven't been keeping up with this, oops.)
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: Netflix never actually announced that they dropped the Redwall adaptation, right? So I've still got my hopes up…
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): Redwall (series, especially Redwall, Mossflower and Martin the Warrior); His Dark Materials & The Book of Dust; The Lord of the Rings & The Silmarillion; Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing; The Magician's Book: A Skeptic's Adventures in Narnia; How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds and Shape Our Futures; The Dark Tower

• contemporary romance: Knit One, Girl Two
• thriller: Genuine Fraud
• horror: Misery (*with caveats)
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: I'll try almost anything once.

Dealbreaker(s): the usual: racism, homophobia, transphobia
I Recently Finished Reading: "How To Keep House While Drowning" by KC Davis. I inhaled it in one sitting
A Book I Want to Reread: The entire Artemis Fowl series, but especially The Atlantis Complex
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: "Dragonflight" by Anne McCaffrey - the
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Um, don't know? Perhaps whatever John Scalzi is working on next... I like his books
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: MURDERBOT. I need to reread the first novel and the rest of the series. I'm seriously thinking of subscribing to the streaming service so I can watch the series.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): I don't have one? Though Madeleine L'Engle's books were very formative for me when I was kid
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, manga (though it's been a while since I've read any manga)
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): for Romance, I highly recommend "The Countess Conspiracy" by Courtney Milan. It is rare that I call a book perfect but I really do think that one is.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Um, nothing comes to mind
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Well, I'm reading a non-fiction book for a book club I'm going to be joining, which is a bit unusual for me, so hey!
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Romance, but really probably anything. My goal is to just READ MORE. I used to be a really voracious reader as a kid and into early adulthood, but that has really dropped off. Anything to encourage me to read more would be good, because I do miss it, and I feel rather sheltered because I'm not exposing myself to many new things.

Dealbreaker(s): Being pro purity culture on anti-kink.
I Recently Finished Reading: An ebook of 'Arabella' by anonymous, Victorian-era erotica. Not quite my thing due to some of the kinks in it, though I find vintage erotica interesting.
A Book I Want to Reread: Considering re-reading Gangsta. vols 1-5 - I just started 6 and don't remember much of what happened after a few years away from the series.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: 'The Husbands' by Holly Gramazio
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Akwaeke Emezi's 'Somadina'.
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: (adaptations etc.) Mildly curious about the Murderbot show though the lead actor's race and gender are huge negatives for me.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): I am not choosing!!
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Sequential art (comics, graphic novels, manga, etc)
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): 'Superman Smashes the Klan' by Gene Luen Yang and Gurihiru. Takes an old radio story that was well known for helping decrease Klan membership numbers, keeps the time it's set in and truly digs into what it means for Superman|Clark to be a child of two cultures. Also the art is adorable and Klanners are beaten up.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Anything written or drawn by fascists or nazis.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Maybe more literary fiction?

I Recently Finished Reading: The Last Devil to Die, Richard Osman
A Book I Want to Reread: I reread Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett, every May 25th. Tanya Huff's Blood Books are a less tightly scheduled want.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: Rubbernecker, Belinda Bauer; Strange Angel, The Otherworldly Life of Rocket Scientist John Whiteside Parsons, by George Pendle; The Enheduanna, translated by Sophus Helle; Wonderbook, Jeff Vandermeer; Bury Your Gays, Chuck Tingle.
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: (adaptations etc.) The Thursday Murder Club adaptation.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): Howl's Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones, is my childhood comfort reread. As far as adult books, Good Omens continues to live at the top beside Dark Lord of Derkholm, despite there being a special place in hell for a certain walking wankstain (I've never really clicked with Gaiman's fiction anyway, and S2 of the show solidified my feeling of 'Oh, it's the Pratchett of it that I like,' long before the bastard was outed).
My Favorite Book Genre(s): I'm all over the place, honestly. Right now I'm veering between mystery and non-fiction (mostly historical. Adding an ice-age vampire to my urban fantasy project seemed like a fun idea, but then everyone, including me, got attached before I realised just how much history I'd have to research. Woe).

I Recently Finished Reading: Melissa Scott's Astreiant series. It's not the last one I finished, but it's one of the latest ones and notable in the sense that I inhaled all six parts of it in a row.
A Book I Want to Reread: To echo another poster upthread, the Captive Prince trilogy. I only read it for the first time last year. You know how sometimes you come across a book that's like tailor-made to scratch your id? That was Captive Prince for me.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List:
Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault. To my shame, I've only ever read Renault's contemporary fiction.
Genjin tarina by Murasaki Shikibu. This is the first complete Finnish translation of Genji monogatari. The translation is by the legendary Kai Nieminen, expanding on an earlier one by Martti Turunen, and it was finally published a few days ago.
The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou, vol. 6 onwards. I've been letting these ones accumulate.
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Queen Demon by Martha Wells. Can't wait for more of Kai!
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: (adaptations etc.) Is there life beyond books? The evidence is inconclusive.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): Persuasion by Jane Austen.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Right now it's danmei.
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Stars of Chaos by priest. It's one of my favourites, and there's a completed, official translation into English available.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Dawning by Ice. I managed to finish the first volume, but it made my eyes bleed.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Literary fiction, which has never been my kind of genre before. Also, classic scifi, which I've barely read any of.
Link to My Latest Book Review: In which I hate on J.M. Coetzee's Disgrace.
Link to My Reading Log: Have a link to my books tag on DW instead.
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: Most likely ones to engage my interest: danmei, M/M fiction in general, fantasy, historical fiction, manga. But really, I just like talking about books.

Dealbreaker(s): Reusing my dealbreakers from last year, I don't want to interact with anyone who holds rightwing beliefs. I also don't don't want to interact with anyone who likes to apply morals to fiction. Other than that, please don't interact with me if you're 20 years old or younger.
I Recently Finished Reading: The Tomb of Dragons by Katherine Addison and Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
A Book I Want to Reread: I'm actually planning to reread The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett soon, before I start A Drop of Corruption!
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: Inanna by Emily H. Wilson, Hearing Happiness by Jaipreet Virdi, The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett, and The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson.
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: I don't really follow new releases, and I think most of the series I'm following have recently ended (sadly looks at Addison's Cemeteries of Amalo), just had new releases, or haven't announced their next book. I'm not that excited about Katabasis by R.F. Kuang, but it's certainly on my TBR, so I guess that's the closest? Oh, but if we're including webnovels, then I'm looking forward to Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint's official English release.
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: I got to watch the first two episodes of Murderbot at its NYC premiere, and needless to say, I'm definitely excited for more! Other than that, I'm looking forward to Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation of Frankenstein. And looking at book adaptations news, I see Project Hail Mary's movie adaptation is supposed to be coming soon, so maybe that as well, depending on how I feel about its trailer?
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): So. Many. The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir, The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner, The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, etc.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Fantasy and science-fiction.
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): I read The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez earlier this year, and it's definitely one of my favorite books this year. Such a fantastic story with gorgeous writing!
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): I recently read The Ministry of Time, and didn't really enjoy it.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Mmhm, at this point I think I've tried out all the genres... I mostly read fiction last year, so maybe I'll try to read more non-fiction this year.

Dealbreaker(s): Just don't be an asshole and we will get along just fine ;) Also, if you're a "positive vibes only" person, my journal will probably not be for you. I am not saying I only post sad stuff, but I do have some mental health issues and want to be able to freely write about them without fearing that it's "too much" for somebody. I hope that makes sense?!?
I Recently Finished Reading: "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
A Book I Want to Reread: I hardly ever re-read books, tbh. There are so many great ones out there left to discover!
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: "Wild Dark Shore" by Charlotte McConaghy, "Black Woods Blue Sky" by Eowyn Ivey...
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: I have to admit that I'm not currently up-to-date on what's coming out. Need to check out some Goodreads lists, I guess!
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: (adaptations etc.) I don't really keep up with those, tbh.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): I cannot possible choose one! A few are: "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov, "The Wrong Boy" by Willy Russell & "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Literary Fiction, Thriller, Nonfiction (biographies/memoirs, social/political topics, psychology etc.), Dystopian, Horror...these are the ones I tend to gravitate to the most. I will read almost anything as long as the book as such sounds interesting. Just not too much into most sci-fi, high fantasy, or extremely gory/gross things. I also seem to slowly "age out" of Young Adult novels, as most that I have recently read I didn't enjoy that much.
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): My favourites, of course. As for a recent read, I really loved "Demon Copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Wow, good question! I might have to come back to you on that one.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out:It's not exactly "new" to me, but I would like to read more graphic novels.

Please don't flame me if you disagree with anything, okay? D:

Date: 2025-05-01 08:21 pm (UTC)It makes total sense! People who have never battled with their own mental health don't know or understand what it's like. And, while I'm sure they're trying to help, it sometimes backfires, too. Besides, it's your space and you shouldn't ever feel like you need to hold back.
We have a lot of genres in common! I'm also one of those people who will read something outside their comfort zones just because it sounds interesting.
That's a bummer about Mexican Gothic! I have it on my e-reader and will get to it eventually.

Date: 2025-05-02 12:24 am (UTC)Deal breaker(s): In literature, Female character only exists for male character development. Romance as the sole plot impetus. Proselytizing. Sexual coersion. Body horror and gore. Cannibalism. Isekai.
In people, pruning characters and conflicts down to the point where they can fit into boiler plate AU. Modern weeaboo orientalism.
I would prefer to be assured that we both read the same book by actually engaging with the nitty gritty.

Dealbreaker(s): all the usual stuff
I Recently Finished Reading: *Straight Boy* by Alessandra Hazard and *Poetry On Ice* by Jesse H Reign
A Book I Want to Reread: The whole *Straight Boys* series. There's just something very cathartic in the emotions for me with those books, I can't explain. I once read five of them in a single day. Totally worth the headache I got, lol.
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: Lily Mayne's *Goliaths of Wrestling* series. I've read and loved the first, and I own the rest but haven't gotten around to reading them. Definitely excited for them, tho!
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: I try not to think about that because my poor, poor budget is hanging on by it's nails at this point. But *The Legend Next Door* by Jesse H Reign is coming out soon and I have my eye on it <3
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: I don't keep up with things like this. The Murderbot show is starting soon/has started already, right? That, whenever I can get my hands on it.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): I have a whole list!
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Romance, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): I've been greatly enjoying Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, though I haven't really read more than a few City Watch books. For romance, anything by R. Cooper, Lily Mayne, Jesse H Reign and Eden Finley. I'm sure there's more but I'm blanking, lmao.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): I will gracefully sidestep this mine I planted myself.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: more horror stuff
Link to My Latest Book Review: I don't do a lot of reviews, but I have some right here on

Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: mm(m+) romance books in a variety of genres/settings and sci-fi/fantasy books. I prefer no spoilers. (I don't even read reviews most of the time, because I'm very impressionable and a single negative review of even a book I'm excited about will talk me out of it orz)

Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: Isaac's Song, Homeseeking, The Sun was Electric cLight, Wild Dark Shore
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: huh. I don't really keep up until about a month before books come out. Although this month I'm getting Alive Day a memoir by a woman whose husband becomes a disabled veteran.

A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: I can't say there's any genres I'm interested in that I haven't already read from, though i keep thinking I'm going to try Discworld, and then not because there's just SO MUCH there and it is overwhelming.
Link to My Latest Book Review: I don't know how to link to it but "When the earth was green" I wrote Well this book was absolutely fascinating. I mean, okay, I admit my biology education was woefully inadequate, and what there was focused on animals with one unit on plants in which we learned the scientific name of every tree that grew on the school's campus and not much more about them. But this book taught me so much that I didn't know, and also was really well written (which can be a struggle for science written by scientists for some reason?). It's mostly a book about plants, but most chapters talks about the symbiosis between plants and animals and how they evolved to work together, the benefits and drawbacks to these evolutionary strategies and why the hell a plant evolved to make cats stoned. Really, this may be one of the strongest books I read all year.

Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: I write a weekly Reading Wednesday post in which I welcome anyone to tell me what they are reading, comment on anything I'm reading, or whatever else. I am currently reading 41 books (and yes I'm getting through at least a chapter of each of them every week mostly. Hi. AuDHD brain here. I can't concentrate on one book at a time, so I just keep flipping from book to book and read them over the course of months), so there's a lot to discuss!

Dealbreaker(s): All the usual -isms.
I Recently Finished Reading: Rereading How to Become a Dark Lord and Die Trying (and not looking up the title, so I may have gotten that slightly wrong)
A Book I Want to Reread: I've mostly only been re-reading lately, what with the state of the world as it is
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): What is this, Sophie's Choice? (A book I have not read, btw.) Who can pick favorites? Just now I'm thinking of doing a nostalgic reread of all things Hilari Bell, but I wouldn't say she's my favorite.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Generally SF/F, but I'll read almost anything except straight literary fiction for adults. (Unless it's really really good.)
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): The Knight and Rogue series by Hilari Bell
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Anything by Cathrynne Valente. Her style does not mesh with my reading.
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: Again, oh anything. I only occasionally post book reviews on my journal, though - I get weird anxiety about people knowing what I like. I do sometimes post negative reviews without putting titles on. (It's mean to put the titles on if all I'm going to do is bash it!)

A Book I Want to Reread: There are a lot of books I'd like to reread at some point so I'm gonna read this question as "a book I want to read again for the first time" when the answer would be: The whole Black Jewels trilogy. And MDZS.

Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: The new danmei books 7S is publishing. I'm mostly side-eyeing them, though as I have a LOT on my reading list right now. I also should read more baihe.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): danmei, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, dark fantasy. I tend to read mostly lgbtqia+ books nowadays and try to read more from POC authors. (When someone asks me why, say, "I've spent about 30 years reading straight, White and Western fantasy. I think it's time I read something else for a change.")
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: I've never been much into comics/graphic novels. I should probably try some.
