[personal profile] quillpunk posting in [community profile] booknook
Hello, hello! [community profile] booknook is (again) tossing its hat in the ring for [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth in the form of a friending meme :D

This is the same meme as last year, as I do not have the brain-space to make a new one, but who knows! You're answers might have changed! You might not have seen the newest entries! You might have completely forgotten to check it out at all, even though you're the admin and you really should have. So let's do this again! <3

Name: I prefer to go by Althea
Pronouns: she/her
Age Group: OLD. (okay, I'm 50)
Dealbreaker(s): the usual: racism, homophobia, transphobia

I Recently Finished Reading: "How To Keep House While Drowning" by KC Davis. I inhaled it in one sitting
A Book I Want to Reread: The entire Artemis Fowl series, but especially The Atlantis Complex
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: "Dragonflight" by Anne McCaffrey - the [community profile] all_worlds_of_mccaffrey group has inspired me to read one of her novels for the first time
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Um, don't know? Perhaps whatever John Scalzi is working on next... I like his books
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: MURDERBOT. I need to reread the first novel and the rest of the series. I'm seriously thinking of subscribing to the streaming service so I can watch the series.

My All-Time Favorite Book(s): I don't have one? Though Madeleine L'Engle's books were very formative for me when I was kid
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, manga (though it's been a while since I've read any manga)
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): for Romance, I highly recommend "The Countess Conspiracy" by Courtney Milan. It is rare that I call a book perfect but I really do think that one is.
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Um, nothing comes to mind
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Well, I'm reading a non-fiction book for a book club I'm going to be joining, which is a bit unusual for me, so hey!

Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Romance, but really probably anything. My goal is to just READ MORE. I used to be a really voracious reader as a kid and into early adulthood, but that has really dropped off. Anything to encourage me to read more would be good, because I do miss it, and I feel rather sheltered because I'm not exposing myself to many new things.

I hear you. I suppose it's natural that with the demands of adulthood comes a corresponding drop in the energy we have to devote to reading. But even so, I miss being the kind of reader who just inhaled books. And not just books that fit my known preferences but any kinds of books. I used to read so much more widely as a teenager than I do now.

We can be old together. (I'm 50, too.)

YES! I love John Scalzi! He's so ridiculous but also seems like a really fantastic person, too.

I'm really interested in the Murderbot series, too. Between the source material and Alexander Skarsgard, how can we go wrong? (Don't answer that, I don't want the universe to get any ideas.)
