Yesss children of time! The best way to read it is at a glacier pace, so you're doing it right!

Still on So You Want to Be a Wizard by Diane Duane (original publish, not the updated one).

Because she was still writing the series, but things were SO DATED, instead of 'floating' the timeline like Nero Wolfe novels, she actually went in and released editions that bring the protags up in time, replacing the tech level, etc. ALSO, she improved the characterizations of her autistic character based on reader feedback (actually autistic ones).

ohh I think I read that in the early 90s? If its the one where the kids find a manual for being a wizard or something and then they go through a portal? I don't remember much about it other than I loved it at the time. Might need to give it a reread I think.

Yes! And I am having a blast, because it is a FREQUENT fusion AU for Yuletide. So I know the fandom... without knowing the source. LOL.

Yesss Diane Duane! I have to get around to reading that series at some point!

I knew her for Star Trek, Television, and a few things here and there, but never knew Young Wizards until I moved to my current situation. And then, I only ever read fusions and crossovers with it! So, time to know the source!

You'll have to let me know what you think of it when you finish it!

I'm about fifty pages into A History of Burning by Janika Oza, a multi-generation family saga about a South Asians in East Africa, really enjoying it so far.

Currently reading through the first book of the Etsusa Bridge series! I've been using the Serial Reader app with the Epub I have which has been really nice.

Just finished The Parliament by Ainee Pokwatka which I liked but it had a few problems. Its about a group of people who get trapped in a library by a swarm of killer owls.

Starting Midnight on Beacon Street by Emily Ruth Verona, which I believe is about a babysitter and an attempted home invasion, but has some horror vibes.

Killer owls, you say?

I am between books 5 and 6 of Beacon Hill Sorcerer and reading a collection of side stories in the world before I continue.

I wrote a bit about my thoughts on it so far, no spoilers just long rambles.

I'm enjoying the books, but I am also trying to get caught up in the series. I don't think there is really a fandom for the books, but I'd like to be able to google stuff, follow the author, etc, without spoilers.

Finished 'System Collapse' a few minutes ago (the final Murderbot diary as far as I can tell) - here's hoping for some more.

Still reading 'Cloud Runner' and 'Girl, Forgotten' but now I've finished 'Soul Music', I've picked up 'The Life-Changing Magic of not giving a f*ck'. I'm starting a new audio book later today or tomorrow - 'The Sleep of Reason' which I've borrowed from the library - not sure whether I'll be able to make it through as it's a true account of events that happened that were terribly sad.

Ooh I've been re-reading the whole series in preparation for System Collapse! The good news is I think there are at least 2 more books planned in the series!

I have to ask.

What does the sardine say eloquently? 😁

I finished my eARC for The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo and I LOVED IT! Huge rec for people who enjoy gender fuckery in books and also a bit of monsterfucking :D

(it’s set in 1920s Kentucky and so there are warnings for period-typical racism and homophobia + religious/spiritual abuse.)

I just finished Prophet by Helen Macdonal and Sin Blaché and I am madly, MADLY in love with it!

To quote one of the reviewers I saw "What a strange book! I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I saw Macdonald attached to an SF project—so I absolutely did not expect this, which if I had to elevator pitch is “Gay X-files slash where they walk away from The Hurt Locker and wind up in Solaris instead”. Does it even matter if it’s good after that pitch? It is, though."
