I Read: 53 books in 2024
My Reading Goal: I had a bunch of different goals, or I guess challenges? But strictly numerically, my goal was 48 books
I Challenged Myself: I managed (barely!) to read four books in French. I read a very good chunk in Swedish. I read at least one non-fiction book a month. I read ten books off my TBR (success!) and ten books I've owned for at least a year (fail, since the goal was twelve). A little over half of my books were from women/enby authors, and over 10% were from Black authors. I read something from two new countries to me (massive success, percentage wise, since my goal was just one new country).
A New Genre I Attempted: I read so widely that at this point I don't know if there are genres that I've never attempted. If there are any left untested it's because I have very good reason to believe I wouldn't enjoy myself.
An Author New-to-me in 2024 I Really Enjoyed: Marie NDiaye!! So good. So, so good. But I have mixed feelings about recommending her here because I think the English translation is unusually bad, maybe bad enough to turn people off to her.
My Favorite Book of the Year: Vengeance is Mine by Marie NDiaye for novels, and maybe The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow for non-fiction.
Books I Read in 2024 That I Recommend: Besides those two? I re-read Slaughter-house 5 after my partner read it for the first time and it still hits hard.

In 2025:

My Reading Goal: 48 books, the same I've had for several years now. It works for me.
I'm Going to Challenge Myself: The same challenges I set for myself every year: language challenges (Swedish and French), personal challenges (clearing out my TBR and physical bookshelves), author challenges (gender, race, nationality).
My TBR List: I don't have a TBR list for the year. It just continues to grow and I continue to try to take bites out of it.
Books I'm Especially Interested in Reading in 2025: I don't really have any set reading plans for 2025 so I'm happy to see what life brings me!
A Book Coming Out in 2025 That I'm Excited About: Reading other answers it seems like Alecto the Ninth might come out this year? That would be great. Maybe I'll reread the other books to refresh my memory.
Other Book-Related News for 2025 I'm Interested In: Other answers here have informed me that there is a Murderbot TV series in the works? Potentially interesting!

It's a shame when something gets lost in the translation of books. I've read a few in English where the reviews are so high and people talk about the language and how great it is and the book just falls flat in English.

Congrats on reading in multiple languages! That's a great skill!
