I started reading VE Schwab's "a gathering of shadows", the sequel to a "darker shade of magic" which I enjoyed a lot!! It's taking me a little bit longer to get into this one, but I'm still very much interested in the world :)

I recently finished A Darker Shade of Magic, and it took me a bit to get into it as well. But I'm very interested in continuing the series tho.

I'm finally finishing The Lost Weekend, a semi-autobiographical novel about a man's descent into alcoholism after being outed at college. Good, but not particularly cheery.

Chipping my way through The Count of Monte Cristo like that priest was chipping through the prison wall. I try to listen to an hour here, an hour there, but it's such a huge book that it's gonna take me awhile. 😅

I'm also doing a buddy read of Dreadful with my best friend, and it's been a ton of fun - very funny fantasy book. And I'm reading The Thrashers because sometimes you just want a goofy YA thriller that's easy to get through.

Out of interest, how long is the audiobook for "The Count of Monte Christo"?

I'm in the middle of Nova, a space opera novel by Samuel Delany. I'm really liking it. There's a good mix of characters, worldbuilding, and class commentary. It has enough going on that it feels like a lived-in universe, without having so many things going on that it feels unfocused (an issue I have had with a couple of his other books).

About 75% of the way through Lev Grossman's The Magicians. It's not what I expected, and I suspect I won't give it a rating higher than "OK" by the end, but I'm looking forward to getting it over with so I can move on to the next read.

I'm a little resentful of this book because I was deeply unimpressed with the first, but somehow continued to read and begrudgingly enjoyed the later volumes. This isn't a suggestion to keep going through; life is too short.
