Finished Cat in a Kiwi Con. Pluses: All the sections narrated by the cat are fun, and it's nice to have someone base their fictional con on Worldcon instead of a media con for once, with a level of detail that even includes a fictional version of SFWA. Minuses: Goes on at length, multiple times, about how terribly fat and ugly the attendees are. Also it's book 12 of a cozy mystery series, which means a substantial chunk of the page count is devoted to ongoing plotlines about people and organizations which the reader is expected to already be familiar with.

17. The Greatest Nobodies of History, which takes historical facts and then expands on them with pieces from the point of view of people (and occasionally other living things) that we know little about. Early ones are very funny (my favorite was the interview with the plague bacteria in a style very specific to UK celebrity journalism), but later ones turn sad and melancholy (e.g. the story of the last dodo and a couple people left behind on the island of Mauritius, which turns into a tragic queer romance).

18. Ten Tomatoes That Changed the World: Currently just on tomato #2, but a fun book so far. Highly readable, entertaining prose, and while the author does throw in some information about his adventures in uncovering the details, it doesn't overshadow the actual history.

I just read the new Murderbot Diaries book, Platform Decay. Like, today. In three hours. I really really enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun, with some great new characters to spend time with. :D

I'm rereading All Systems Red by Martha Wells for [community profile] bookclub_dw. I'm really enjoying it (again), which says something because I never re-read books.

Barely into Charles de Lint's "Tapping the Dream Tree: New Tales of Newford", one of my all time favorite fictional universes. Not making progress because I have comic books to read...

Reading is going well!

I finished Return of the King earlier this week, and have moved on to the (completely different, lol) The Ballad of Black Tom.

I'm also getting close to finishing Heated Rivalry, and for once might only be a LITTLE late to completing something that has an active fandom, haha.

I read all of Homeschooled: A Memoir over my Golden Week break and started (re)reading Work Won't Love You Back: How Devotion to Our Jobs Keeps Us Exploited, Exhausted, and Alone.

I need to get started on This Is How You Lose the Time War this weekend if I want to finish it on time for book club.

Currently reading The Original by Nell Stevens for a book club. It's interesting but slow going for me. This could just be a "me" thing this week, with other stuff going on, though.

I read her "Bleaker House" a while ago because it sounded really interesting. But I found her obnoxious and almost too stupid to live. Didn't enjoy that book at all, sadly.
