Introducing myself
Apr. 28th, 2024 10:38 amName: Dialecticdreamer
Pronouns: she/her
Age Group: over fifty
Dealbreaker(s): Certain trigger warnings, but also certain kinds of sexism as from stories written in the 1930s to 1950s.
I Recently Finished Reading: A fanfiction in the Batman/DC universe called "Done" by Huntressundone. It's on A03. I read every morning as part of the wake-up routine, so I grab a lot of fanfic over those segments of the day.
A Book I Want to Reread: Fiction: The Far Side of the World, by Patrick O'Brian (part of the Master and Commander series). Much better than the movie, and I found the movie first. Nonfiction: anything in philosophy, which makes me argue with the book while I think through my views. LOL!
Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List: Oh, no, that list is hundreds of books long. How about one of the dozen that the library didn't have? Writing to Learn by William Zinsser
A Book Not-Yet-Published I'm Excited About: Not my usual focus; I get excited about reading Tacitus and listen to Hildegard von Bingen.
Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: (adaptations etc.) Looking for suggestions here!
My All-Time Favorite Book(s): Ethics, by Aristotle, A Wrinkle in Time, by M. L'Engle, "October Country," by Bradbury, "Methuselah's Children" and "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by RA Heinlein.
My Favorite Book Genre(s): Science fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, poetry... and a bit of everything else under the sun.
A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Stranger in a Strange Land by RA Heinlein
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): Harry Potter. It was great for discussions and exploring ideas, but the writing itself just doesn't encourage re-reading for me.
A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: nontraditional formats, like multidirectional text, or layered storytelling.
Link to My Latest Book Review: Don't have one.
Link to My Reading Log: Don't have one.
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: YES.
